A Rake of Reels - John Nolan (2000)
For this recording, John called on the talents of
several long-time friends, a group he hails as "a great collection of
top musicians that I have had the
pleasure of working with for the past twenty-five years." He was
especially proud to be able to feature Jim
Kelly, Sr. ("the greatest ceili
drummer") and his guitarist son, Jim Kelly, Jr., together here for the
first time on any recording. John also recruited
Keith "Boogie" Sammut, a keyboard player he describes as "a hidden
treasure of musicality, as shown by his
orchestration
of 'Morgan Magan.'" Fiddler John Reynolds is a fellow member of Morning
Star who John hails as "the most sought after
violinist for traditional folk music." -- Don Meade

A
Taste for the Traditional - John Nolan & Pat Keogh (1988)
John Nolan and Pat Keogh first met at the "Bunratty
sessions" in the winter of 1973. The world famous Bunratty Pub, located
in the Bronx, NY, was the home of
traditional Irish music in New York during the late 1970s and early
1970s. . . This, their debut
album, is traditional Irish music at its best, with a distinct New York
flavor. It comes alive with a vibrancy and energy not to be
found anywhere else. Fans of
Irish traditional and folk music will find the music of John Nolan and
Pat Keogh electrifying. "A
Taste for the Traditional" is a refreshing addition
to the traditional music scene that is thriving in both Ireland and
America. -- B. Morris.
